Andy Stott Live / Meewee / Utopus / Djahz pe 24 februarie la Barrio, Piata Amzei. By Circus.


Urmeaza un must see maine, din punctul meu de vedere, de fapt un must listen: live-ul lui Andy Stott de la Barrio, Piata Amzei. Punctul asta de vedere  si de ascultare cuprinde intregul arc al evolutiei scenei de house si techno, din Manchesterul anilor '90 si The Second Summer of Love pana astazi, in Manchesterul post-riot post criza post house si post milenia. Cum zice si personajul android din Blade Runner, am vazut stelele nascandu-se si stingandu-se pe langa mine. Soundul actual al lui Andy Stott este exact ramasita supernovei techno, dupa a carei explozie urmeaza racirea si trasformarea acestuia fie intr-o gaura neagra fie intr-o stea inghetata. Intregul corpus de releasuri ale lui Andy Stott - producatorul de dub techno din Manchester (UK) - pare ca anunta aceasta traiectorie intr-un catalog la fel de bogat ca al colegilor lui de la casa de discuri Modern Love: Claro Intelecto, Move D, Andy Stott, Demdike Stare, Deepchord Presents Echospace, Bitstream, Kaman Leung, Mariel Ito, Pendle Coven, MLZ, Troubleshooter, Ilektro si altii. 

Dotat cu un simt acut al spatialitatii sonore si cu un talent incontestabil pentru construirea unor piese care sunt in acelasi timp rafinate si brutale, Stott umbla cu grija pe axa dintre intelligent techno, dub techno si dubstep. Inspirandu-se din trackurile de dub techno ale maestrilor (Basic Channel e unul din nume), si fixandu-le cu idealuri minimaliste si melodii si texturi dense ca un abur de baie, piesele lui Stott ofera o experienţa de home listening profunda, precum si frecventele de foraj necesare pentru a face sa se miste orice scena de club.

Daca la Daphne, sublabelul breakbeat al Modern Love, Andy Stott a semnat piese care abordeaza ritmuri rapide si sincopate de juke sau post-dubstep copilaresc si voit caraghios sub pseudonimul Andrea sau in combinatia Millie & Andrea, la casa de discuri mama releasurile sale se diferentiaza printr-o constanta explorare a unui sound aflat intr-o intersectie fertila de genuri.

Percutiile de ciocan pneumatic din "Tantrum Temper" si mai delicatele texturi ritmice din "Gunshot" constituie osatura unora dintre cele mai bune piese care au aparut din regiunile neclare in care dubstepul se intersectează cu techno si house; acestea raman productii vitale, cat se poate de indepartate de productiile celor care practica in mod obisnuit acest gen de hibridizari.

Se poate spune ca din 2000 pana la ultimele titlurile lansate anul trecut, Andy Stott a ramas constant intr-o zona circumscrisa de beaturi de detroit techno baros sau a evoluat curat in siajul dub-techno-ului. Insa productiile din 2011 "Passed by me" si "We stay together" l-au consacrat pe Andy Stott intr-un cu totul alt spatiu sonic. Vorbim de techno disfunctional sau broken house, un sound dedicat pentru slow zombie live acts, cu tempo-uri ce rar depasesc 100 BPM, tarandu-si magma undeva la 80-90 BPM. Si cand spunem magma, nu folosim neaparat o figura de stil: muzica recenta a lui Andy Stott pare construita din tot materialul sonor cu care ne-a obisnuit muzica techno - aceleasi loopuri si sample metalico-industriale, aceleasi kik drum-uri - doar ca de data asta topite intr-un cuptor de lava si reasamblate cu tot cu zgura, cenusa, impuritati si hibride corpuri straine, care mimeaza organicul din spatele unor carcase de cyborgi scapati dintr-o deflagratie apocaliptica.

Aflate la antipodul mitului propus de cultura de club obisnuita, acela al ecstasy-ului si energiei nesfarsite dedicate unor nesfarsite cicluri de partyuri si afteruri, seturile si liveurile lui Andy Stott sunt incarcate de aceasta energie primitiva si brutala a unui gen care renaste din propria lava si cenusa in timp ce noi suntem martorii mutatiei, dezintegrarii si reintegrarii progresive pline de forta a unei muzici care nu inceteaza sa se reinventeze.

Utopus (RO) este un live act made in RO, poate revelatia anului in curs (poate nu), pe cale de aparitie la labelul paralel Valley Sound al lui Steve Kotey (The Chiken Lips), cu care a si impartit unul din afisele Camera Sambo de la Control de anul trecut. Un nume de la care asteptam multe, avand in spate un prolific instrumentist si colectionar de analog gear, implicat si in alte proiecte live aflate la intersectia dintre electronica, rock, progressive, live dubstep + influente orientale si un producator cu multiple proiecte si alter ego-uri muzicale, proiectul e brainchld-ul unor bucuresteni al caror mediu natural este studioul de productie si inregistrari. I-am numit pe A.D. si I.D. Utopus va fi prezent maine cu un DJ Set.
